John Cephas

wmcusm.gif (11057 bytes) John Cephas started playing the guitar at the age of nine when family and friends got together on weekends for country breakdowns and house parties. His cousin, David Taleofero, taught him much of what he plays--the alternating thumb-and-finger picking style that characterizes Piedmont blues. His playing was also influenced by such famous bluesmen as Blind Lemon Jefferson, Reverend Gary Davis and Tampa Red, as well as music from the ragtime era.

A world-class and multi-award-winning acoustic Blues guitarist John Cephas is an experienced teacher who will gently ease you into the traditional grooves he plays so well. John is a great communicator, and has been known to jam until sunrise with some regularity.
