of course i realise thers nothing new in the idea, many have done it.. and still do... but when catching the fab backsliders (aussie) recently, Dom Turner, the mainstay and frontman/guitarist of act, was talking about the idea of how those 60's/70's bands were so heavily influenced by the blues, (amongst other genres), that it doesnt take much reverse engineering to gentle tease out the essence, and seeing i have been going thru a HUGE re-rediscovering 'let it bleed' phase in recent years, ..what a perfect album, bar the fine, and popular, but incongruously sitting 'you cant always get..' IMO, ..geez i do go on! not ya chips rafferty typical laconic aussie i'm sorry, ..thats just so the flies dont get in btw... anyway one off their new mini EP, which i purchased while there, and the t shirt! well its got a reso on it! yes i like doing the fanboy thang,

anyway their very imaginative version of 'gimme shelter' can be found here, i have it on high rotation! how good is Ian Collard on harp .. he's a monster woah!

I like it! Must see them if I get a chance. Are they on at Byron next year?

Saw Jeff Lang again the other night.... always inspiring. And it's Ry Cooder tomorrow night.

You must be about due for a return visit Bob?

We (The LEGENDARY Yucatones) have been mining the fifties and sixties for a few years now for nontraditional, eclectic cover material. I just love re-imagining some of those tunes.

Wonderful World (Sam Cooke)
Down In The Boondocks (Billy Joe Royal, but penned by the great Joe South)
Soul Deep (the Box Tops)
Poor Side Of Town (Johnny Rivers)
Come A Little Bit Closer (Jay and the Americans)
Blue Bayou (Roy Orbison)
Sunny Afternoon (Kinks)
Bus Stop (The Hollies)
Don't Worry Baby (The Beach Boys)
Walkin' After Midnight (Patsy Cline)
and others...

We drop one or two of those in the set every night and people just eat it up...

Thanks for that. Really great stuff--and I think Keith would like the Gimme Shelter.
