If anybody out there peering into this forum needs a Christmas present, consider International Guitar Seminars.
I was most fortunate to spend a week at Columbia Univ. with these talented folks. An atmosphere that was 100% non-threatening, no ego's, just a common bond of music apprecation.
Being a "Midwesterner" I was somewhat concerned about lolling into New York City with just minimal previous experiences. I got out of the taxi cab and was immediately met by Trevor Laurence who helped me with all the assorted gear I was hauling. Then met Martin Simpson who I thought might be a student(Much to my chagrin) I have been marvelling at all these people ever since. Yes they will be your instructors, I was hoping to see them maybe once a day during lessons, Au contrare- you will eat, sleep, hang out, play and entertain and be entertained, the entire time while you are there. Yes, emphatically, it met my expectations and I suspect it will meet yours.
One of my employees, while encouraging me to go on vacation said, "what are you savin it for? new underwear?
I suggest you consider this seminar, everyone, at all skill levels, had a part and felt part of what was going on. It was truly a sensory and musical overload.
Your family is tired of the old worn out tunes you've been playin for the past few years. Come and add some new stuff to your musical tool kit and repetiore, your family will appreciate it also. A great Christmas present that will last a life time.
It is way better than new underwear!

I dont know Bill, I have some pretty nasty underwear. :-) You are right , what a great gift idea!! SO, If any one is wondring what to get ole Tim....Its funny that you thought Martin was a student, beacuse I thought Orville was , and was equally dismayed that I was in WAY over my head.

I agree!!
The best investment I've made in the past year with my time and money was I.G.S.! Plus there are great scholorship opportunities available. Even an old flat-picker like me feels right at home and I will continue to attend the Santa Cruz camp as long as these incredible men and women are willing to share their time with us!

You guy's are making my heart pound with your description of the guitar seminar last summer in N.Y. I had the good fortune of catching Martin Simpson last May in Albany.........JAW-DROPING is the way to describe this man's playing! so I could imagine a whole week.

Yes, Martins playing is out of this world, come to IGS and you find him to be a great guy also. He is totally down to earth, and he literally spent hours trying to teach me "see that my grave is kept clean" He has a bunch of funny stories too. ( but not as funny as John Cephas)

By the way Tim I forgot to mention in my previuos message that after Martin's show I hounded him for a lesson, he accepted and the next morning (10.00A.M) there I was taking a private lesson with Master Simpson as I jokingly refered to him. What a modest man he is and one great storyteller to boot, can't wait for June 2000 to steal more slide lick's off him!

Hey Tim, and other G forum readers,
Your comment about thinking some of our teachers were students. This just might be what has made them successful, they continue to have absorbent minds and will continue to learn from everybody around them whether seasoned professionals or rank amatuers. This is the stuff that makes I.G.S. and our instructors, not only great communicators but also fun people to be around! This leads to an unabashed commercial endorsement.

ALL OF YOU PEERING INTO THIS FORUM----YOUR FAMILY IS TIRED OF YOUR WORN OUT TUNES!

Consider *International Guitar Seminars* if you intend to continue to torment your guitar into the next milenium. Consider a broader spectrum of musical possibilities. This would make a great Christmas present. Give Trevor a call today, decide early to avoid disapointment!

So does anyone have a ballpark number on the cost of the week seminar in NYC? I live in the area and would not need accomodations. I didn't see anything about pricing on the website...did I just miss it?

Hey Roberto,
Talk with Trevor Laurence, he can fill you in on the details. I am envious of your proximity to Columbia, this is where I.G.S. is held.
I travel from Minnesota to get there and find it well worth the trip! Hope to see you there.

Dear Bill,Tim,Randy, Paul et al

Greetings. I've been away for the past few months and catching up with the forum. What a great gift to come home a read your comments about IGS. When we started the workshop - Bob and I knew there was a need to create a music community where everybody felt included and could share ideas in a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere - but we did not realize that it would attract such a talented, intelligent, and committed group of people. To hear of the strides some of you have been making in your music and how it has effected your daily lives makes me realize how important the workshops are. I have been teaching through my books/ videos etc for a long time and IGS has given me a renewed inspiration to share my music with all of you. Stay in touch and hope to see you soon.
Take care

For those of you peering in to this "guitar forum".
Many questions are asked (within this forum) that might sound esoteric or above your technical and musical abilitites. Rest assured that the students that attend International Guitar Seminars(are mortals and) attend, because they want to learn and have a good time while exploring the musical possibilities of playing guitar.
Most of us are non-professional musicians and like myself have decided to try and learn to play something besides those old worn out tunes we've all been playing for way to long.
There are students at all skill levels, I repeat, there are students at all skill levels. We all recognize that we have something to learn and something to share. I know of know other refuge where you can go and partake in a musical feast like I.G.S.
Today, I sent in my deposit and I have know doubts that it will be another musical and sensory overload! I also encourage anybody out there who might be considering I. G. S. to ask some questions , send for a registration brochure. Consider attending this seminar soon, to avoid disapointment.
My only lingering doubt is whether I sealed the envelope that left with the mail carrier today. Trevor, please let me know when you receive it.
