Has anybody got this tab of Mary Flower - playing "Black Dog Rag" it was published in Fingerpicking Guitar magazine probably #41. I am absolutly mad about her music, she´s absoluly fantastic. Where do I get her CD´s in Europe? Probably try CDNOW it´s expensive postage to Europe though..

Peace and happy solstice..

Trevor at Avalon guitar carries a couple of her CD's. The shipping wouldn't work out too expensive per CD if you bought a pack of strings and/or a tab book along with it.

I think I've got that issue of Fingerstyle magazine. I'll try to dig it up and let you know.
She rules. I was very honored to have Mary back me up on her lapstyle tricone at the student concert at IGS NY 2000!

Thanx a lot. It´s very kind of you.
I bought 3 of Mary Flowers cd´s from CDNOW postage to europe is about 10$. I can live with that, Mary Flower is playin the kind of blues that is close to my heart, I´ll get into some research on what on earth Piedmont Blues is one of these days. I really like what she does. I´ll probably go to IGS one fine day and see her in person.

thanks again.

BTW Guilaume: are there to your knowledge any netbased folk-blues Cd shops specialised in folk-blues in the EU area? France? UK?

PS: Merry Xmas in Danish is: GLÆDELIG JUL, say after me please: GLÆDELIG JUL.. ;-)

The "Æ" is pronounced like the first E in "Elderly" D is soft D like the TH sound in THose.. Come on you can do it..

Hey Finn - 'Piedmont' refers to a guitar style which features an alternating, synchopated bass line, and easily discernable melody, as opposed to 'Delta' or 'Country' Blues, which tends to stress a simple, steady bass pulse over the melody. Another IGS faculty member, John Cephas, is also a practioner of this style.
There's a description of 'Piedmont' @ http://www.io.com/~tbone1/blues/ECblz/what.html

According to her schedule, Mary will be in England in June:

Also for a good CD source check out Document Records in Scotland.

Finn,

You could try Red Lick Records in Wales, UK. I have got some good stuff from them ...they do a Newsletter every so often which is a good read. Lots of used disks also and other materials too. I will try to include the link below, but generally computers and I don't get on....so if I fail just search under Red Lick... http://www.redlickrecords.com/

If you like Mary's sound you should get her ragtime instructional video. It is great! No tab, but she is so clear that you don't need it.
