Recently I conducted a little test. I went to the two most popular music downloading sites and downloaded the programs. After this I enterted a search for Charlie Patton in both of them one of which was the ever popular Morpeus. I was extremely supprised with the results, it returned with 1 found file. One I did the exact same search on Audio Galaxy it returned with 138 matchs, I was very suprised that so many people rave about Morpheus. I was just wondering what experiences other people have had with Downloading music and with these 2 programs.

Thanks Kurt......not,
I went to Audio Galaxy, surfed around, really liked what I saw, got already to hook up with them, AND THEY DON"T HAVE A MAC VERSION...why is this always the way? Any Mac sympathizers out there?

I, too, was really pissed off when I tried to use Audio Galaxy. I had the same experience. They never even stated system requirements! I started to download the driver, only to discover the dreaded dot.exe file type. It's amazing how many short-sighted software developers are out there. I used to write them all asking for software for the rest of us, and only one ever came through. I now have a preview version of TablEdit for the Mac. Well, Dave, I also own a WinDoze laptop so that I can run some software that I simply want to use, such as Guitar Pro. Since Napster is gone, I discovered WinMX. Nice interface, and good user base. I just have to set it up each time, and then transfer the mp3's to my Mac on zip disks. Then I use Toast Titanium to automatically convert mp3's to audio files and burn a disc.

I'm a mac user too, but I used Windows for years. As a result, my financial life is in Quicken for Windows. When I switched back to using the Mac, I bought VirtualPC so I could continue to run Win-Quicken. More than a little baroque, I realize, but it works for me.

A side effect is that when I ran into Audio Galaxy's Mac-less offering, I was able to run it just fine under VirtualPC. After downloading songs, I just drag and drop the files onto the Mac desktop, double-click and play.

So, I guess this is a plug for VirtualPC, with one big caveat: lots of audio app's don't work right. There's something messed up about the MIDI link from the virtual Windows machine to the Mac's audio output. For example, when you "play" a tune in a Windows tab program, it sounds like crap.

Jeffrey, I'll have to look into that Mac version of TablEdit.

I have not downloaded much music but my 13 year old son has. He colpletely killed my PC by downloading some game on morpheus that did not contain a virus (according to mcaffee) but it corrupted dos when the system attempted to run the game in a dos only mode. BEWARE! on many of these sites file you are not downloading is not on the "host" but the host is a link between your PC and someone elses which may or may not be safe, secure or virus protected. Morpheus also gives all users access to YOUR files as well. The morpheus site is also used to trade porn so watch your kids if they are using it. Then there is the legality issue on anything that is copywrighted. As an ASCAP member and "owner" of a few titles I have mixed feelings on the "download" subject.

well guys, I hear all your complaints about audio galaxy not having a version for macs, but there is a program called mac satelite which will let you use audio galaxy if you have a Mac. I dont know how to get it but I know its out there.

These sharing programs have "spyware" installed that track your behaviour.
I still get great value from emusic which reliably has the music and has no spyware.

I second the Emusic vote. Good selection of traditionals (lots of Shanachie compilations). Plus, my understanding of sites like Morpheus is that they are bootleg (don't pay royalties) so if you like an artist or label, it's not too polite to screw them.
