My trusty Intellitouch Tuner crashed this past week, I thought it was the batteries, but not so. Seems to be some electrical glitch caused by unseen gremlins. MIght also be the time it bounced out of my guitar case.

My question: Before I go out and buy another $50-60+ tool, is there a better guitar tuner that provides reliable readings in noisy environments? (and can take a licking yet keep on ticking)

Thanks in advance.

I used to love intellitouch tuners, but 3 of mine have broken for unknown reasons. They are very fragile, too fragile if you ask me...

I like the intellitouch -when they work. For some reason mine never works well on my National although I saw Kyle use them on his.

I have had no problems with a Boss TU-70 which has the cute feature of letting choose between open tunings: D,E, G, A. Don't know why the forgot C.

The guitarist I work with, who happens to be on vacation for a week (so I can't ask him the make or model) has a small bar shaped digital light tuner that he sticks or places to the body of his Delphi. I don't know if it is adhesive, or magnetic that makes it affix to the guitar. It may take a week, but when I get the name I'll post it. The tuner is maybe approx 3" long, oliptical shaped, the face has the note read out in lights, when it it is pitch the light beams, I think green.

That's a sabine - very popular and probably more durable than Intellitouch.

I have the Sabine AX-2000W. It sticks on the guitar body with a non-tacky coated foam rubber pad. Everyone asks me "What's that thing on your guitar?" I call it a "guitar tumor". Everyone wonders whether it will hurt the guitar finish. No problem so far, but I don't leave it on constantly at home. I put it on for workshops, jams, etc, i.e. group playing situations. It's pretty good at only hearing my guitar, and it's pretty accurate and easy to use. I've dropped it a couple times with no trouble so far.

Hey Mike: Intellitouch Tuners! Aaarrrrrgghh! What a great concept! What a piece of crap! I bought one from our friend Harry a while back, and loved it. It tuned everything, Gibson, National, Banjolele, etc. Then it didn't work. When I returned my third one to Harry, he said that's too bad, let's get you something else, then he gave it to Mark and said "add this to pile of returns to Intellitouch" LOL! He gave me credit towards a nice Seiko, that is not nearly as convenient, and won't tune in a noisey environment - but it actually works (so far). Brad.

webnash, and dmills, thanks for coming through with the name for me. I'm thinking of getting one for my acoustic & resonator guitars. Seems very practical.

for what it's worth, I've had the sabine st1000 tuner (not the one that sticks to your guitar but the little pack-of-cigarettes shaped one) for about six or seven years at least and it's been a total champ. It's fallen off amplifiers, had beer spilled on it, been left on in the case, still works like the day I got it. One of my favorite pieces of gear on the grounds that it does exactly what it's supposed to do every stinking time.
