Willie Trice was a wonderful country-blues player and singer from Durham, NC. I own his last record "Blue & Rag'd" that has been reissued on CD by Trix label. I know there was also three other LP's on the Flyright label : "Bull City Blues", "Carolina Country Blues" and "Orange County Special". These recordings don't seem to have been reissued and are just impossible to find !
Anyone to help me ?

"Bull City Blues" was issued as a CD as well as LP, Gemm has used listings for both.
I am not having much luck with the other LP's. However you might get something from DOcument records 5168 which talks about having the complete records of the Trice's:
"Carolina Blues (1937-47)
24 tracks, 69 mins, recommended. A lovely collection of Carolina country blues featuring the complete recordings of Floyd "Dipper Boy" Council, Richard & Welly Trice and Eddie Kelly's Washboard Band. Council and the Trices were associates of Blind Boy Fuller and play in the same fluid guitar style with excellent vocals. One should not assume that they were influenced by Fuller but rather that they were all representatives of a local tradition. Welly Trice is particularly fine and his two tracks with brother Rich on guitar are stunningly beautiful. Rich is not as strong a performer but is very fine and this disc includes his 6 excellent sides recorded postwar in 1947 for Savoy - only one 78 was released under the pseudonym Little Boy Fuller! Eddie Kelly and his band are biographical blanks but immensely entertaining with powerful vocals by Kelly and accompaniments on harmonica, kazoo, guitar and washboard. Good sound and informative notes by Ken Romanowski. (FS)
FLOYD "DIPPER BOY" COUNCIL: I Don't Want No Hungry Woman/ I'm Grievin' And I'm Worryin'/ Lookin' For My Baby/ Poor And Ain't Got A Dime/ Runaway Man Blues/ Working Man Blues/ EDDIE KELLY'S WASHBOARD BAND: Blues In The Rain/ Come On 'round To My House, Baby (013027)/ Come On 'round To My House, Baby (013028)/ Corina, I'm Goin' Away/ Goin' Back To Alabama/ If You Think I'm Lovin' You, You're Wrong/ Poole County Blues/ Shim Shaming/ RICHARD & WELLY TRICE: Bed Spring Blues/ Blood Red River Blues/ Come On Baby/ Come On In Here Mama/ Down-hearted Man/ Lazy Bug Blues/ Let Her Go God Bless Her/ Pack It Up And Go/ Shake Your Stuff/ Trembling Bed Springs Blues "

Also have you seen the documentery film on Richard Trice? It probably has some good music on it: "Shine On: Richard Trice and the Bull City Blues (1999)". YOlu can buy it for $25 from Groove.

"Synopsis

Shine On: Richard Trice and the Bull City Blues tells the poignant and lyrical story of one man's fascinating journey through blues music to spiritual redemption. Richard Trice, who died at the age of 82 on April 6, 2000, was the last survivor of the heyday of the blues in Durham, North Carolina in the 1930's. Trice spent over 18 years in a healthcare facility in Durham prior to his death and was best known for his friendship with Piedmont blues king, Blind Boy Fuller, and his encounters with blues legends Reverend Gary Davis, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee.

In the film, he revisits with warmth and humor important landmarks from his sharecropping roots and his free-wheeling life as a roaming blues player. Through his memory, the memory of others, and evocative photographic and film images, a world of African American family, music and community emerges. Trices's musical career took him to New York city where he recorded for Decca and Savoy records in the 1930's-1940's.

As he reflects on his recording experiences, Trice hints at the exploitative relationship between race record companies and producers and blues players. Back in North Carolina, he performed at house parties, jook joints, and tobacco warehouses until the early 1960's. Shine On offers a unique perspective on blues music by transcending many of the stereotypes and preconceptions about blues artists and by revealing much about the tensions between secular music and the personal calling to spiritual rebirth. It is both a celebration of the Piedmont blues and an intimate story of Trice's attempt to look back and give meaning to his life.

Many, many thanks, Adrian, for all these informations ! I am particularly passioned by the lives of all these amazing musicians, specially Blind Boy Fuller and the guys from Durham, also Blind Willie McTell and Curley Weaver from Atlanta.
Sometimes, just looking at their photos makes my hair straight up on my head !
The film "Shine On" seems to be a must, I'm gonna have to buy it !
Again, thank you and excuse my poor english writing ...

bcw,

I apologize. It was meant in fun but I understand how it could be seen as offensive. The whole hip hop language reminds me of the jive of the 70's. I find language fascinating. The choice of words, slang, contractions, inflections, etc can carry meaning (and possibly power) beyond the initial intended message. Although I haven't yet read Russel Simmon's book I bet he makes a similar argument. I'm impressed by your posts here on the forum and you often hit the nail on the head with short insightful comments. By the way, have you read "Where Dead Voices Gather" by Nick Tosches? I'd be curious to hear what you think.

I apologize to everyone else for hijacking this thread. I'd actually never heard of Willie Trice until I read this thread.
