well here is the truth. I have been slogging through Minor swing django as I have made it known here before and I am finding so many great lines!(i know this song is cliche, but I dare you to try and pick it up note for note. For me it has been great fun and a huge challenge) Before that I have enjoyed simlarities in flamenco and blues. But it occured to me that an IGS workshop in favorite minor licks would actually be fun. That would open up a can of worms in other keys I know. Maybe it is a rather crazy way to learn guitar! Nevertheless I kind of like learning licks and it is what I have time for in my too busy life. I try to apply them when and where I can. SO my REAL question to the group is: What are some of your favorite minor licks in any key, any kind of music? IP: Logged |

Yeah, you're liable to be tempted to start playing blues in minor keys, which don't work (except for "St James' Infirmary"). It's a cheap way of trying to get that bluesy feel. Minor is great for folk, but not for blues. IP: Logged |

All Your Love-Otis Rush As The Years Go Passing By-Albert King The Thrill Is Gone -B.B.King I have to say that you can't put music (or for that matter art) in such specific catagories, you have to think outside the box (pun intended). Walt IP: Logged |

If you like Django's Minor Swing and you want to open up some other minor keys, try "Blues en Mineur", also by Django, in G minor this time. IP: Logged |

Minor is great for folk, but not for blues. Huh, dang that John Cephas! All those fantastic tunes in Open D minor he played the other night weren't Blues tune??! I want my money back! IP: Logged |

Led Zep's "Since I've Been Loving You" is in a minor key. Sounds plenty bluesy to my ears! IP: Logged |
