HI its me the wanna be patton, charlie 85", ive changed my name, anyway, i am a patton fan and i hope to immpress some 30 year experts around here, cause i can play real good! i TURNED MY LIFE TO jesus christ YESTERDAY, AND IT HIT ME. Their is no room in this world for a foolish liar! I hope all of you here believe in Christ, as Patton did. As he says in some songs, Ive been redeemed, Ill meet you on that other shore.("im goin home"), and ("Lord im discouraged") and ( Prayer of Death").. and more. I will now more than ever appreciate his glorified songs about God. I have also learned something from this experience, you cant fool anyone but yourself! and believe me if you can, its true. I plan on sticking around but only if people around here can except me. I have changed my life for the better and wouldnt even think to lie now.

Copying something is one thing, inventing it is another. Claiming to be the best or that one holds the "secrets" is hubristic bullshit. I thought it was pretty funny the young fella's 'moral' distinction that stealing lyrics is stealing, but stealing guitar parts is not stealing. Unless you live forever, ownership is a funny concept.

Charley Patton's music? Just listen, listen, LISTEN! Then when you hear the music playing and turning in your head by itself, SING his vocal phrases AND his guitar phrases.

Talking about Patton vs. playing and listening to it is like talking about sex vs. doing it.

ANY MUSICIAN THAT SAYS HE IS "GOOD" AT MUSIC......ISN'T! Music is a humbler, and it takes your whole life to find this out.

Ah the insouciance of youth. Wish I'd conquered the world way back then, when I still knew everything!!!

Religion? Take it to the non-guitar section of our Forum, please.

3 is the new 2!

Why does everyone think his boasts of Patton-prowess were bullshit, but his claim of being 20 years old is true? Whatever his true age, I'm relieved the Lord has called upon Charlie. Because we all know that religious people never lie. It's true, I read it in the paper. Well, it was actually a church newsletter, but still I saw it right there in black and white...

I harbor a suspicion that this is an nsolitude sock puppet ID. He wanted to outplay everyone on the board, so he went down to the crossroads to make a deal. But he didn't have anything that Steve Vai wanted, so instead of technical skill all he could bargain for were some books on Patton. It's just a theory, I'm still working out the details.

Is there any chance we are observing the deconstruction of "he who must not be named"? Just asking.

BTW, let us know if accepting Jesus Christ as your personal saviour helps with your fingering, because I still can't play lead worth a damn, and there are a couple of songs I am trying to figure out. Anyway, where I live Daystar is the channel next to Esteban, so I guess I could pick something up going back and forth!

What Bob Brozman said about music being a great humbler is very true. If I new now half of what I thought I new 25 years ago I could be satisfied. I once had the "angry young man" gunfighter attitude about playing guitar but wisely outgrew it. There is only room for one "best." Best at what? Wrong concept. Goes against every natural order on the planet. There is more than one kind of tree, dog, cow and anything else you can think of.
We are all steered by everything we encounter. If by listening to Patton, or R.Johnson or Son House your playing is influenced, you have in a way made them imortal. By trying to mimic every nuance of their style you may provide an interesting or entertaining view but you have not become yourself ( there is a good chance that if someone was to play a note for note copy of one of his songs to one of these men they would be pissed off). Anyway what I mean to say is, sure we can get our rocks off knowing all the inside tricks and touches of an earlier master, but let him be. Learn from him and notice what he did but play your own. He did.

Boy, people here will accept (except) you here, no problem. We all have one thing in common, a love of music, especially guitar. Just quit saying you are what you're not, and please, please keep you're religious foolishness to yourself. I don't care if you believe in Jesus, Buddah, Allah, Satan, or worship cats (as certain people here do), I don't want to hear about it. I'm not interested, and find it downright annoying.

He's completely screwing around. I'm reading the sarcasm and horseshit right off his last post. Whatever dude. Some of that stuff was mildly funny but you got a fair amount of older, more mature memebers who'll give ya the benefit of the doubt and you obviously figured that out. Naaa, sorry, not here. You are a case.

I will go out on a limb and say your earlier posts are basically performance art/stunt art that is actually fairly successful as far as that limited hoo-hah is concerned

(Partial response to Gotdemblues...)
So, in other words you want a forum created in your own image to preach the almighty, eternal gospel of the reso-blues-lord?
There are all kinds of fanatics, y'know... (-had to go there).
I've always believed ones music is a reflection of spirit.
Are we talking about spiritually based music here? Can't have one without the other (no matter what the personal belief, preference may be- to clarify).
I can tell you one thing, anyone out there I have ever heard playing blues who hasn't made a personal "spiritual" connection toward their music,(pro or non/race not the issue) has never made an impression that stuck.
That's the one thing you can't fake or replace with fine tuned chops...
Great music isn't beyond spiritual capacity, it's the embodiment of it.
Across all boundaries!

"A forum created in my own image"??? I don't really know what the heck that is supposed to mean, although it does have a nice biblical ring to it, I'll give you that. I thought my earlier post was quite clear, but apparantly not. Let me try again. I believe in spirituality, and think your point about spirituality and music is more or less well taken. However, spirituality and religion are two separate things. If, for you, music and religion are connected, fine. I don't care what you believe, or don't believe when it comes to religion. What I do care about is when people foist their religious beliefs upon me against my wishes. I don't like it. If it's fair for people to inflict their personal religious beliefs on me, then it's fair for me to express my opinions about said beliefs. Keep your religion, your religious bumper stickers, your fish emblems and your bible quotes to yourself, and we'll get along just fine.

Did i say that anyone had to care about my belief in God? That is your decision! I believe in Christ and I am not ashamed. I do not blaspheme anyone who takes part in this room. I will not claim i am who is not anymore. I have already confessed you this.(A MAN WHO ISOLATES HIMSELF SEEKS HIS OWN DESIRE, AND HE RAGES AGAINST ALL WISE JUDGMENT). Anyone who answers a matter before he hears it, it is a folly and shame to him.
