I'm looking for the lyrics to the song "Brother John", as performed by David Lindley. I can't find my copy of the CD, and have been unsuccessful tracking it down on the net. If anyone can help, I'd very much appreciate it. GDB IP: Logged |

The song was written by Cyrille Neville of the Neville Brothers and performed by the Wild Tchoupitoulas. Try searching that. IP: Logged |

David Lindley, damn!!! You know, as much time as I spent in England, the english is not my mother tongue, and I often find pieces of lyrics difficult to understand. And this is expecially true with Lindley. What kind of lingo-jumbo is he singin' in? Is it a variety of english of some place? Really would like to know where its accent is from. Last year I saw him, I told him afterwards exactly this, and he burst into laughin'. I really wanted to get the lyrics of "Cottonmill Blues" down, and I made at least 3 americans, 1 australian and 1 brit listening to it, with no help! Anyone could help? IP: Logged |

quote: Probably a lot of New Orleans stuff in there. I recently made an attempt to write down several Dr.John lyrics and had the same problem (and the good doctors slurred singing didn't make it easier!), even Americans I know had to give up on one of them ("Take What I Can Get", to be exact)... PS - in Lindley's case there's also some "rasta-english" involved, and I wouldn't be surprised if much of it has been 'customized' by him.......
