That *MIGHT* be the most intelligent thing that King Sol has said on this board. Forget labels and "stop fooling yourself".

I think that Steinar said it a little more clearly, though (with the exception of "contempt" for "content".

"now starting to wonder if the guy that fixes my car for a living isnt a mechanic just cause none has called him one, i should get my money back "

Well, I would say that if no one is calling him a mechanic, than maybe he's not the guy the want working on your brakes.

The question is - can anyone decided to wake up one morning and declare themselves a mechanic.

King, again, you miss the point....you don't have to be called an artist to be an artist. Why is that so hard for you to understand. As far as the guy who fixes my car, I don't have to call him a mechanic, I only have to know he is a mechanic, by his actions. What's the old saying..action speaks louder than words. Instead of calling yourself an artist...BE an artist, by what you DO. An artist is not measured by their title, it is by what they DO. How much simpler can that be.

With public recognition criterea, I have always thought that there was something of the Emporer's New Clothes in the world of Art and Artists. Like the Velvet Underground - fun band - but lousy musicians. Those people who put all the colored plastic in Central Park? That just appeared to me as a publicity stunt. But whatever, I still don't understand the bitterness of some of these posts. DM

I haven't read the whole of this thread, and I'm not about to do so. I have skimmed bits enough to wonder why fluff like this and the seemingly naive comment, heavy on dreamy-eyed pretense, that spawned it can generate three pages of heated debate, but practical talk about the practicality of applying guitars to music, whether Art or product, gets a terse one off or so and fades into the cyber abyss. ...Thank God for my day job; that's something I can understand.

This topic is over for me, This whole topic was started just cause i call myself an artist, and now people are like fighting over it! what immaturity. Hoodadoo, that is one smart thing ive read from u on your last reply, i agree 100% and never disagreed with that.
But i didnt miss the point you missed it by far.
U said it yourself exactly as i have said, only i have used examples. My point was that no one has to call you an artist for you to be an artist. Clearly said.

Solomon's end was far different than his beginning. In his later years he became corrupt and perverted, which resulted in the fall of his kingdom - the same reasons that, many years later, his Temple also fell.
