As for my very favorite kind of xtian music, I admit it: I loooooove Black Gospel...everybody from Andre Crouche on down to Mahalia Jackson. I used to hang out at some Black churches just to listen to the music...and one of my fondest experiences came after I had finished performing at 'The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival", the last year I was in N.O. (the band I was playing keyboard in opened for Muddy Waters.): I had cracked my sternum and a bunch of ribs, after a motorcycle accident, a couple of days before, so I was in great pain. I had smoked a whole lot of Cannabis throughout the day, plus healthy doses of "Jack Daniels"...plus a handful of painkillers a friend gave me before we performed. Needless to say, I was reasonably blitzed by the time we came off the stage and I wandered over to the Gospel tent. This huge Black Gospel choir (around 100 members) was on stage and, man, they were COOKING! I didn't try to listen to the words...but the music, the massed voices and the intensity almost made ME feel like "testifying". Now THAT is some fine, fine music...irregardless of the "message"!

Greetings to the one known as Tazwell. Brozmanism should not involve offerings, but means you should listen to and play the music that people such as our Saviour, The Great Brozman, struggles to preserve. Play blues, play Hawaiian, or another great tradtional American musical genre. Bob Brozman is my Saviour and the Saviour of Brozmanism for his selfless struggle to preserve the cultural history of the United States Of America. But, if we don't do our part, real music will eventually die. IP: Logged |

I have suggestion, all the ones who doesn't like the young man's question, why don't you leave the topic, why spending time here when you can't relate to the question, why answering a question which obviously is not for you? and why insulting and not asking him: "well I guess you have to be under 15 yourself (I hope so), and you are asking for guitarist on your own age, but why do they have to be christian?
My age? more than 15, what I non-believe or believe i is irrellevant, and I wouldn't dream of telling it here Bob Brozman just out of curiosity, how did you now if they where christians? Did they sell bibles? Or did they walk up to you and said "hey we're christians and we want to schrew you!"? Steen [This message has been edited by sfhansen (edited 05-11-2006).] IP: Logged |

quote: Pretty simple request to have stirred up such a shitstorm. I'd like to add "sacred steel" to the list of 'good' Christian music. One of the high points of last years portland blues fest was the Campbell bros. trading licks between pedal & lap steel...they'll both be teaching at the Centrum slide & steel camp this year btw. scamp IP: Logged |

Well I probably shouldn't wade into this swamp, but what the hell. Opinions on religion aside, shouldn't us older folks be supporting our youngins, not telling them to take themselves and their beliefs the hell out of here and calling them morons for not knowing what a dobro is? You know, the rant factor is quite high on this forum these days. That's fine and entertaining but do we really want to go jumping down some kids throat just for asking an innocent question? Perhaps we do. IP: Logged |

Why the hell isn't this on the other side by now ? Someone mentions "Christian" and the left-wing knee-jerks tear the whole thing to fucking shreds. The right love to see that. "There go the godless commie libs attacking religion again..." And btw, perception is REALITY - do ya need this stamped on your forehead ? The sooner the Dems make inroads into the fundamentalist right and/or anything w/ the word "family" attached the sooner another Dem will be back in the White House. Doesn't matter to you who is in there ? Dems and Repuiblicans the same in your book ? Come and contrast the last 4 years of Clinton's administration and the first 4 years of the present one.... Still doesn't make any difference to you ? IP: Logged |

Oh Ian- what can I say. No storm in a teacup here. I have refrained on countless occasions from responding to your unpleasantness- but eventually weakened. I shant do so again. I already feel like I've been pulled in (during a moment of weakness) by a troll. However.... "You call that being a bully? Cool! I really could care less. " That speaks volumes. You care not a jot about the effect you have on others. That may not matter to you. But you will have to excuse me for conclduing you are a pretty uncivilised individual. "However, your argument is specious. I don't know any Black Folks who go around preaching about how everyone should be Black...or trying to force their values on others. "Religion" is a choice. One's ethnicity is not!" Who was forcing this on you? And who said all Christians did so? Its the crass and bigotted generalisation that was offensive.... Hence the juxtaposition with the classic racist. All "XXXX" are stupid/ pushy/ moneygrabbing/ smelly/ barbaric/ etc etc etc. Doesnt matter who you make crass generalisationas about- they are still bigotted and stupid to most normal folk. You epitomise much of what the rest of the world despises in the USA. There are so many great things there, its a shame that you perpetrate the stereotypes. I repeat- I have no time, personally, for religion. I find its premise spurious. But I will never abuse anyone who goes about their own business without causing me problems, for the beliefs, religion, culture, clothers, looks, or anything else. Its a part of being civilised and respecting your fellow human beings. This is supposed to be a friendly forum where guitar enthusiasts share their ideas, passions and knowledge with one another. More often than not your posts appear to antagonise rather than offer anything. That'll do for me. But do stop for a moment and ask yourself why a mild mannered, non religous, relatively occasional posting, hobbyist guitarist, intelligent and generally calm and measured person/ poster found himself, on this occasion, unable to refrain from objecting to your posts.
