BY-

Please notice that I wrote that FOLKS think Jubi's nuts...and scary, etc. Personally, I think he's just a fuzzy-faced sweetheart. Remember me? I was the first person on this forum to stand up for him. I think Jubi is, probably, a near literary genius...

...which, I guess, is just another word for "nuts"!

You, me & Jubi in a bar together as brothers: now THERE'S a scary notion, fer sure! Problem is: I can't talk Jubi into making the Daytona Run...something about all the recluse spiders around The Cat Farm.

Yup, as the smart-ass claimed: looks to me like Clapton just HATES Knopfler. Look at all the dirty-looks Clapton is shooting Knopfler.

Obviously, some serious "ego-tripping" going on there!

Looks like Knopfler was under strict instruction not to embarrass Clapton.

He almost pulled it of! (Almost)

Okay, since you replied as you did, again I ask: why such animosity for Clapton on this forum? Serious question. Can you give me a SERIOUS answer?

Following AZL's (well-deserved) appraisal of the merits of Mark K's playing, I'd just like to put in a word for JJ Cale, who was not only an acknowledged influence on both MK & EC, but for my money pretty much originated that economical, 'less-is-more' style of playing, which is my preference by far - you can easily hear Cale's influence on Knopfler's songwriting, too, if you compare the early Dire Straits stuff with Cale's 'Okie' or 'Naturally'; there aren't too many albums that stand up to listening for more than 30 years, but those early Cale ones are real gems..

Yes , Dire Strait wouldn't exist without J.J. Cale & the most interesting Clapton playing is when he is backing J.J.!

Geez some of us are taking this stuff a bit seriously. We're here to have fun not tear strips off one another.
Any way back to the subject, satire is a difficult thing to get across sometimes because it's based on real situations and attitudes. Unlike out and out gut busting comedy, satire has to be almost real, although there must be a subtle distinction.
My son plays guitar and when he started he was into death metal and so were his guitar totin' buddies.
When I got a copy of "Spinal Tap" I played it for him and his mates, they just didn't get it.
They thought that Spinal Tap was a real gigging band and wanted to go and see them if or when they came to Sydney.
I had to sit them down and explain all of the jokes. "But this one goes to eleven" took ages because they thought it was a great idea, I mean it took just as long to make them understand why a 15watt valve amp could sound better than a 100 watt Marshall stack depending on the situation.
They thought the more watts the better the sound.
