Wow! I just found out about these things
http://www.walkerseats.com/home.htm

I'm in love! A folding chair that you can pack all of your cabels, mics and gizmos into. They even come with a built in power strip. I saw one for the first time on John Mcgann's "Rhythm Tune Up" DVD, which I found out about on this forum.

Anybody here using one of these chairs? Any pros or cons?

I believe you will find that Walker seats are not only respected but very common in the steel guitar world.

Good idea Dennis. ...with compartments big enough for guitars and mic stands.

Might want to put some wheels on it though.

a bit off topic, but I'm always frustrated around the campfire trying to play sitting in a "quad" folding chair - the kind that are everywhere these days - with the big side arms. My darling wife just bought me a quad chair with no armrests. I'd be in heaven, only, no place to put the beer!

Put the beer in your gut!

Yes aTom, arms on chairs suck. Every chair on my patio has arms. When I hang on my patio w/ guitar, I usually sit on a step.

BTW, I don't play steel guitar and don't think I ever will. I just think this is a great idea for any working musician who sits down to play. I'm just worried that it might be a back breaker to haul.

www.fqms.com used to sell these with their logo printed on the back:

Mine has served me well at countless campfires and open jams. It ingeniously folds as you pick it up by the shoulder strap. Mine is kept permanently in the car and gets even more use at outdoor music concerts and street fests. I didn't see them at the FQMS site but REI sells 'em for around 30 bucks. There's no built in power strip though.

I just noticed that REI also gives the additional choice of offering a taller version of this chair.

Are you kidding me? That's what Camelbak's are for.

A taller chair with only three legs and a Camelback full of beer. Does that sound like a bad combination?

I believe someone around here is fond of saying, "Hey, if you're not living on the edge then you're taking up too much space."
