anyone had any personal experience with a yamaha fg-75. from what i've heard they're supposed to be a pretty hot little guitar. 3/4 size but sturdy and rumored to have good tone. anyone had or played one. looking for feedback from bonafide guitar pickers!

wow... I have one. My first acoustic. Who would have guessed anybody would ever ask? I bought it...shit, 30 years ago?

Sturdy? oh yeah. Been to many a multi-day camp-out folk fest and other bang-around type of happenings. Beat to crap, but still chugging along.

tone? well, it tends to lack low-end and low-end definition. To my ears it's kind of cardboard-y. But what did I want for $90?
But I stuck a Baggs pickup and a nut-raiser on it and use it for lap slide now, and it's back on the road.

I seem to recall a pretty useable action too, but it kind of languished for years due to my lack of acoustic a) chops b) gigs. (used to be much more of a full-time electro-head)

I'm putting it back to regular (non-lap) set up for a camping trip next weekend, and I'll let you know if I've changed my mind about the tone.

Or how it performs as an oar for my kayak! lol....

I recently got into the early Yamaha thing. The red label or white label Nippon Gakki's are very nice. I pickedup a FG-150 which was modeled off of the Martin 000-18 and also an FG-230 12 string. They sound really, really good especially for the money. The only issue is most of the necks are fairly narrow and does not contain a lot of space for fingerstyle.

It's "Republic of China; Made in Taiwan."

I think the label was white, originally, or maybe cream colored. It's definitely yellowed with age.

I've owned 3 of them now, and always looking for the next one, they are the worlds best beaters. I got mine for @ $20-$40 from Goodwill, and played them to death until I crossed paths with someone who showed interest, and then I just hand them the guitar. Two of them see weekly action in church praise bands, and one is on a youth camping trip currently. Our lead guitarist also has one in his locker at work, and uses it for practice every day. There is a pretty nice one in one of our local music stores with a price of $179 on it. Loud little tanks, and the next time I come across one, I'll buy it if the price is right. I've seen em go as high as $150 on internet auction sites. So far I've had one red lable and two grey lables, and I really couldn't tell a difference.

well, due to a financial crisis this past year i had to sell all my guitars, and i had some nice ones. have to start over and need something to pick on or i'm gonna go nuts. ran across this yamaha fg-75 for 130.00 and thats as low as he'll go, so i think i'm gonna pull the trigger. funds are still tight and i have to do something. just needed some feedback to help with the decision. its not the best deal, but i'm not getting takin to the cleaners either. i need a guitar!

I got 5 guitars this past year (but that's it - it's over...) but the one that gets played the most is a late 60's/Early 70's FG-300. Nippon Gakki red label and Brazilian ply on the back ! Whoo hoo ! It's got that dead Stones acoustic guitar thing because it's a direct copy of the awful Hummingbirds and Doves w/ the tune-a-matics.

I love this guitar.

taylormade...go for it. That's a decent price, and it's playable as hell. I may have neglected to mention that...
