You got that right. With this heat it will be a relief to hit the Pacific Northwest. I think that "official" RJ guitar would make a nice addition to your vintage collection. You could bring it to PT. You could just check it in the original chipboard case. See you soon Rev. Mark IP: Logged |

Ok, lets just say it is the guitar in the photo (no way of proving it, but lets just say it is). Would it make a museum piece? Maybe, in a 'Rock & Roll hall of fame" sort of way. Would anyone who wanted to actually play it be able to afford it? Doubtful. If they could, and did play it, would they sound like Johnson (even with an exact reproduction of his recording setup). No. Even putting all that aside, is there any evidence that this guitar was anything more than a prop for the photo? There are loads of theories about what he played - I've heard suggestions about him playing all sorts of guitars, including Nationals! Lots of the other stuff they sell has a pretty much verifiable background - signed records, letters on traceable notepaper, but I don't think this guitar can never be anything more than 'believed to be Robert Johnson's'. Still, it's a nice guitar... IP: Logged |

..and I suppose I could always sell my soul to the devil to buy it. Except I reckon it'll be selling for more than I'd get for my soul. IP: Logged |

Some guys really have nerve! That elaborate website, the "proof", claims about light covering every inconsistency, whew! Yet people dream of finding such a thing........(cue music: When you wish upon a star)...................................

I just wanted to add that I have the strings off the guitar that Robert Johnson was playing in that photo. They look identical. I've been able to verify they are the originals from the photos using the WAG method. They are a little rusty and crusty but if you're looking for the true RJ sound you'll want them. I'm selling them at the bargain price of $150,000.00 plus shipping. New Jersey residents will have to pay the 7% tax. With some luck you could possibly recover some of Robert Johnson's DNA off the strings. Think what that would be worth. IP: Logged |

What nerve, indeed! Anybody who knows anything knows that the one in Robert J photo is a 1928 model, distinguisable by the extra pin located below the bridge pins. I have the same guitar, with lots of wear on it. Maybe I should ask $6,00 for mine? ![]() A load of bollocks...... IP: Logged |

Provenance... Hell... I wouldn't give RJ himself 6 Million if he was still alive, STILL playin' the guitar and if he taught me the 28 songs... The sad part is some fool will probably pay that for it. A comparison to a poor quality picture is a rediculous basis for provenance with no other supporting lineage or evidence. IP: Logged |

I'm curious... where did they turn this up, did it belong to his family? Wasn't there mention of some other RJ guitar on this forum that a poster had in his possesion? After looking at the pics in that site, I don't see anything convincing linking that guitar for sale and the one in the picture, other than it's the same model and wishful thinking on the part of the seller. There's probably more of a chance that my Style 3 was the instrument Peetie W. had in his PR pic than this being RJ's guitar, yeah right.. oh well well..... IP: Logged |

didn't RJ's guitar have a 7th string held on with a nail on the neck? Or did I imagine reading that? IP: Logged |

The guy does not return emails either. I asked to see the guitar and try out my new "devil tuning" on it but he's not responding. I told him I have the 6 mil so it must be that he doesn't believe I have the "devil tuning." It is a beautiful guitar but I'm waiting to buy RJ's Kalamazoo as soon as it hits the market. IP: Logged |

You can fool some of the people some of the time .... Once guitars turned the metaphysical corner as a serious revenue-generating investment all kinds of creeps came out of the woodwork. Scott Chinery's buying spree dis a lot of good but also helped inflate prices. Mandolin Brothers Teardrop D'Angelico, the wild inflation of Les Paul's .... all have contributed to all kinds of scams and near scams to try to turn guitasrs into piles of cash. As for these sellers, this same company is advertising the album John Lennon signed for Mark Chapman just before he was killed and brags about it having Chapman's fingerprints and letters from the DA. Ugh! So far beyind bad taste I can't even comment further. IP: Logged |

Here's an exerpt on some information that was posted on the Les Paul Forum on the individual, Gary Zimet and company, Moments in Time, selling the $6M RJ guitar. Looks like there are quite a few lawsuits involving other items offered for sale. Thanks to LPF's "Bluesjuke" for the links. US Government sues over JFK papers John Lennon LP owner sues Paul McCartney sues over stolen "Sgt Pepper" lyrics Studio owner calls Zimet's "Secret Beatle Sessions" tape "absurd" [This message has been edited by Knucklehead (edited 07-30-2006).] [This message has been edited by Knucklehead (edited 07-30-2006).] [This message has been edited by Knucklehead (edited 07-30-2006).] IP: Logged |

So, this guy sells stolen property, stolen government property, blank tapes that USED to have the beatles on them (but don't say 'beatles' anywhere on them). Then, if he's selling on your behalf he keeps all the money. If you object (like McCartney) then he offers to sell your possessions back to you! ... and he wants 6 million quid for a guitar that could have belonged to pretty much anyone. I'm pretty damn sure that if I tries to pull off even one of these I'd end up in prison. So why the hell isn't this crook? IP: Logged |
