"It is not verified, but if you hold it side by side to one of the (2) other only known photos of him, you will see for yourself." Okay, I'm sold! This is easily worth $795,000!! IP: Logged |

Seems fishy. Looks "too" good and there's something about it that isn't quite right. The pen in the pocket doesn't seem appropriate. To blues historians and RJ aficionados on this list, was Robert Johnson literate and would he carry a pen? Eric [This message has been edited by Eric W (edited 01-09-2007).] IP: Logged |

Aside from the eyes, nose & mouth, they look exactly the same! [This message has been edited by outfidel (edited 01-09-2007).] IP: Logged |

Anyone else notice the cleft bottom of the picture, as though someone was a little careless in photoshop? "...photo album of old south delta type photos"!? That in itself is laughable. Good stuff, good stuff. Someone would have to be a real [rich] sucker to buy that thing. IP: Logged |

Ha, not even close. Look at the part of the nose between the nostrils, RJs drops down some below the nostrils. This other guy's is non existent. Also, the eyebrows are different, the angle upward. Gotta admit, the auctioneer has BRASS BALLS to try and pull this off. He'll be on an island somewhere before the buyer even receives the pic. Reminds me of when Bart Simpson changed his report card so he could go to summer camp. He made all the D's into A's. Maybe if that guy was asking $10k he'd have a chance. Len IP: Logged |

This is either offensive, hilarious, or the most brilliant ebay scam ever. I'm gonna go with hilarious in a brilliant, offensive, and maybe sad way... P.S.: I would like to trade an old guitar featured on on the Paramount recordings of Charlie Patton, Willie Brown, and Son House from the 1920's (not verified, but you will hear for yourself) for 795,000.00. I really need the money fast for a big purchase and am looking for a quick transaction. IP: Logged |

And...don't go and buy one of these either for $15...like I did three years ago: It says "Old photograph" but it is actually a shit photocopy that you could do yourself at the printer for $1.50 He also sells Son House, Elvis and other cool artists: IP: Logged |

I can't imagine a better combination to get this forum going than a combined topic of Robert Johnson AND ebay! Throw in a 1930 tricone into the photo and I think the server will crash. IP: Logged |

I read in one of the Robert Johnson biographies that a third photo exists. It was supposedly obtained from Johnson's sister along with the other two well known photographs by Steve LaVere. The few people that have seen the picture report that RJ is in the aame striped suit as the studio photo and is in the company of his family on the occasion of a relative going into the Navy. Whether of not it will ever be made public is unknown. Wonder if we'll see that photo in our lifetime, along with the much touted book on RJ by Mack MacCormack that will reveal new information. I recall mention that LaVere or MacCormack have Johnson's little black book or diary. IP: Logged |

Robert had a drooping eyelid. They should have included that detail in this scam. IP: Logged |

Here's another beauty to go along with your new photo: Buy both and have two pieces of memorabilia from two of the greatest guitarists of the 20th Century... IP: Logged |

Hi there ! Funny you say that Johan ! I was thinking the same thing !!! This guy looks far too "beefy" to be the liitle "squirt" that is RJ. Other than the lack of "lazy eye", he does look similar though. IP: Logged |

... There is another RJ photo out there yet to be published, surfaced about two years ago. I haven't seen it personally but a very reliable source has & it is indeed authentic. All I will say is that in the photo he is accompanied by another reputable guitarist. Sorry for the tease, but if I say any more on this it will be my neck! Let's just say there is something to look forward to. PS I am already a member here under another username but chose anonymity on this. IP: Logged |

I've heard from pretty knowledgable sources that there is a real debate over whether the original two RJ photo's are even the same person. IP: Logged |

quote: The ebay / value issue is a joke. But I love the research aspect of Pre War music. It would be great to find a scrapbook full of old shots of Blind Boy Fuller, Blind Lemon and Blind Blake. (There's a joke here about a scrapbook full of blind people, but I'll leave that to others.) But not for the price tag it would attract. I think it would be fun to know more about these guys, although saying that, part of their "aura" has always been augmented by the mystery factor. IP: Logged |

Right on Danny C - What is important are all those sped-up recordings he left us... Oh, and sure, the crossroads, the devil, mojo hand, black cat bone, "She wants 50 cents and I lacks a nickel", etc etc etc......... IP: Logged |
