The forum goes through rough times sometimes, just like the world. Oldtimers here know it is not the first time things have gotten acrimonious here and it has been much worse than this little tiff. Internet forums are a clumsy place to work out disagreements. My apologies again to anyone, including Len, who feels offended, that's all. In fact, I have purchased a guitar from Len in the past, paid top dollar, voluntarily, and it was correct as described. He is indeed a dealer, with a guitar business.

In the long scheme of things, resolution happens.

I'd just like to express my appreciation for this forum - I learned more about resos in my first few months here than I had done in the previous 3+ decades, & it's still my first-call site, always something of interest to read; I've seen many cases, in less good-natured forums, where online discussions take a turn for the worse, usually because it's easy to misinterpret the written word in ways that don't happen in person-to-person conversations..I also tend to think of this site as the nearest thing to an online testament/commemoration of the Dopyeras & their wonderful products, & for that reason also would hate to see it go - if it warrants a subscription to keep it going, it's worth it to me..hell, we're all doomed, anyway..

And best regards to you, Len. Thanks for your considerate and honest reply, and for giving credit where due. And I realize that vintage Nationals these days need more work than the ones turning up 20 years ago. It is true that the proportion of vintage nats in poor condition or needing work is higher now than when I wrote that quote in the book, way back in 93, having seen over 3000 Nationals before 1993. Nowadays, many of the "good" ones already reside in collections. So I see why these days you must take them all apart. Just try not to do it when they play and sound well! Things that have been vibrating together for years will NOT sound the same when pulled apart and re-assembled, even if you do nothing else!

I am not really a big National dealer, there are many more larger than me, including yourself, I believe. You say on your site that you are the #3 dealer worldwide, which I definitely am not. I do not have the funding to invest in keeping a large stock of instruments on hand like you do. My main value is in my ears, knowledge and experience. I definitely have lost some business to you, but that's just life, no problem there. I never planned on being a full-time guitar dealer with a shop, because I gig full time. My relation with National is like close family, and I act as a consultant and spokesman for them in many ways, including providing guitars.

To the others, as you can see both Len and I are reasonable guys and big boys who can deal with our own disagreements without anyone else getting all upset and magnifying it.

Back to your guitars!

Len, I know you are not trying to advertise here these days---feel free to post here whenever you like, or whenever you see interesting things to post about. (Yes I agree, Jimmy Rodgers was a very important musician in US music history). I think the whole world knows about vintagenationals.com already, what's done is done ... so why not just continue to feel welcome here always, as just another National-lovin' fool like any of us.

Best regards to you,

Bob

Hello,

I have discovered National guitars thanks to Bob Brozman, and I bought my Tricone squareneck from Lenny.
Here in France, when I started to interest in resonator guitar a few years ago, the only thing I heard about it was: "You will have problems with Tricone cause Resonators guitars are always buzzing." ...

I let you imagine how much I feel indebted to this forum, as I am now an really happy Tricone player!

So: "Longue vie à ce forum!" :-)
Paolo.

Bob, with all due respect, don't have a go with someone on a public forum if you don't want others to get involved (airing your dirty laundry in public and all that). Maybe this altercation would have been better conducted via personal email, a telephone call or even in person (if possible)!

Best

HT Thanks for your advice. Further post-mortem not necessary. Why not end this thread here and now, and start a new one with the listing of reso-stuff....

Proudly TV-free since 1967!

I know I haven't been on the forum long, but from my point of view, Mr. B makes sure we have all of his accomplishments noted. To that I say, its so ingrained already that Bob is the main driver of all this. Fantastic player, and a self made man.
When he starts telling us that so-and-so didn't play reso's or, didn't know something until they'd met him, I think, far out, now I know.
Stress...

Well that's another one of those unstated rules about the internet. Once something is put out there on a public forum, it's pretty hard to put a stop to it.
