I’m looking for the lyrics and guitar chords to a song I think might be Marty Cooper’s “The Indiana Girl.” At least I believe it’s this song. I guess it was also a square dance call from, well, way back when.

The lyric lines I can remember (can't seem to forget, actually) are:

“Come on in kick your dusty shoes off, sing-a sing a song of way back when. Sing a song of Indiana one more time, and you can be your daddy’s girl again.”

Another possible lyric line is:

“It’s a long way from the Wabash to the Hudson, girl, and the first place it shows is in your eyes…”

This is one of those song-on-rewind-in-the-head situations. I’ve been looking for the rest of these lyrics for some time.

Two things drive me crazy about this song—it keeps circulating in my head and I keep wondering who put this in my brain? I don’t recall buying any Marty Cooper tapes. Cooper evidently put it out in '72 on a 45 with "Mamma Was a Cowgirl" on the flip side. It was also on an album he did called "A Minute of Your Time." Research tells me this about Cooper's record but I'm still not sure this is the song I want.

I'm ready to get a turntable, and buy the antique vinyl, but what if that’s not the song I seek. I already paid righteous bucks for a 1916 sheet music of “My Indiana Girl” that turned out to be a lot of corn fed hooey and not my tune.

If this is Cooper’s song, as my research seems to indicate, it must have been covered by some group whose work I would have purchased at some time in my foggy past. Who?
